Thanks to all of you who prayed for our recent outreach with llusionist Brock Gill. The outreach occurred, on April 9th, but we almost thought we were going to have to cancel it because the room we reserved, Chem 194, didn't seem like it would work for his show.
We could not get another room on short notice, so we prepared to postpone the outreach until the fall. At the last minute though, Brock decided to just change some elements of his show so that that the staging area in Chem 194 would work. A great relief and answer to prayer, but it didn't give us much time to really promote the event. Only a couple of days.
The day of the out reach, Brock did a few things at the Flagpole area of the school to draw crowds. We handed out fliers, put up stakes...all the typical stuff.
That night, I was worried that we would only fill about half the room. However, after about 10 minutes into the show, there were people who were standing in the back. It was a full house of more than 350 students.
I have to say Brock's show was quite entertaining and engaging. He related well with students and he was quite humorous as well. He got a lot of different volunteers from the audience to help with his illusions.
He did some crazy stuff, like bending keys and spoons that were placed in bags that seemed to be out of his control.
Half-way into the 90 minute program, he took a short intermission. He explained that after the intermission, he would do more illusions but that he was also going to share his spiritual story. He was giving people who totally weren't interested, an opportunity to bolt if they didn't want to hear it. I estimate that about 90% of the crowd returned for the rest of the show.
Brock did not do a full gospel presentation. It was more of a pre-evangelistic exposure. He shared his testimony and experiences setting up a great opportunity for our students to follow up and share their faith with their friends after the show. It was a great opportunity for our students to step out in faith and encouraged them to be bold with their faith.
We did get a lot of people who filled out and returned cards at the event. Some seemed interested to here more. So pray for us as we continue to contact students who came before the end year ends this next month. Pray for those who did come to be more open to God and Jesus. Pray that some would come to know Christ as a result of this outreach.
Thanks again for your prayers.
