Noemma sat across from the two gentlemen. Noemma, far from home, on summer project with Campus Crusade for Christ, decided to take a step of faith and share Christ with the two gentlemen. Noemmas friend spoke up first and he shared his testimony about how God greatly changed his life. Noemma translated for him. Then Noemma began her own testimony about how God shaped her life and how He brought forgiveness into her life. Another person joined the group, curious about their discussion, then another, then another. Soon there were eight people there listening to Noemma talk about God and what He has done.
Noemma continued her discussion. Seizing the opportunity, she began to tell people about how they could have a truly life altering relationship with Jesus Christ. As she told people about how we have sinned and how Jesus died for our sins, the crowd continued to listen intently. Soon enough, Noemma reached the end of her presentation and she asked who wanted to pray to receive Christ. Out of the eight people present, 7 raised their hands and as Noemma led them through a prayer to receive Christ, the angels in heaven began their rejoicing.
Noemma was part of Destinos missions project to Venezuela. This year, we were proud to send four of our students on summer missions projects. Two went to the San Diego/Tijuana border area and two went to Venezuela. It has been part of a vision that we have had for our ministry. Our vision is that Destino, in reaching Latin American students would produce missionaries who would be ideally suited to reach Latin America with the Gospel. This year was the first fruits from this effort. Our hope is not only to send students short term to Latin America but also to establish long term ministries there as well. As a result of the students who ministered in Venezuela, the local ministry of Campus Crusade there (called Vida Estudiante) grew from 10 students to over 50.
Noemma may very well become part of the long term movement of students ministering in Latin America. In six weeks, Noemma saw 27 students come to Christ. When we asked her how that happened she said that it helps if you speak the language. This just illustrates how well equipped many Latin American students are for reaching South and Central America. They know the language and the culture. As a result of her trip to Venezuela, Noemma has gained a heart for the region. Currently she has decided that she wants to join staff with Campus Crusade and is currently considering where to go.
